The Gretsch Company—one of the world's best known guitar and drum makers—marks its 125th anniversary this year. In an afternoon clinic, Jim Pettit, owner of the Memphis Drum Shop, and guitarist Bob Sabellico, will present a performance clinic. Musicians, music collectors, music fans, and history enthusiasts of all ages are encouraged to attend. Gretsch also celebrates another important date at Berklee. August 11, 2008 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of Jimmie Webster, legendary Gretsch Company guitar clinician and marketing manager. The Gretsch Company has endowed a Berklee scholarship in Jimmie Webster’s name to benefit a deserving and talented student majoring in music business/management. Modern jazz has found a new voice in alto saxophonist Jon De Lucia. With the Jon De Lucia Group. Jon pushes the boundaries of jazz, while still focusing on improvisation as the group's driving force. His compositions leave room for many kinds of development, making each performance unique. This is possible because of the caliber of musicians involved. Bandmates in various ensembles since their student years at Berklee College of Music, Jon and the Group members easily establish a musical bond and group concept rare in today s music.
